Trampoline Safety
Trampoline Safety Basics & Tips
Trampolines are a great way for children and adults alike to get their daily exercise. While using a trampoline is a lot of fun, it can also be dangerous. In the past 10 years there have been over 6 deaths from trampoline related accidents.
Buying A Trampoline With Safety In Mind When purchasing a trampoline there are some important safety features to be considered. Set-up and installation must be carried out as per the specifications in the instruction manual to make sure that the trampoline is stable and ready for use.
A trampoline with safety pads will stop those on the trampoline injuring themselves on the springs if they fall. Often pads are optional extras when buying a trampoline, but they are an extra that is well worth it.
"Examine the specifics of the trampoline user manual, what kind of weight will it support, what are the materials out of which the trampoline is made off."
Make sure that the trampoline mat is made of strong sturdy materials and be aware of the allowable weight restrictions for the trampoline mat. Quality mats are the most important part of trampoline safety and a quality trampoline is worth the extra cost, if it will keep the people using it safe.
If children are jumping on the trampoline, it is a good idea to buy a safety net. This will reduce the likelihood of a fall from the trampoline causing injury. Safety nets can be removed for older children or adults. Generally, the cost of a safety net is reasonable and is well worth the investment if small children will be using the trampoline often.
Keeping Safe Apart from the safety features that can be installed on a trampoline, special care needs to be taken especially when children are jumping. There should never be more than one person at a time using the trampoline. This will avoid the collisions that are the most common cause of injury on trampolines.
When children are on the trampoline, adult supervision is needed at all times. The trampoline should also be placed in a safe area, ideally on soft grass and dug into a trench to reduce the distance between the ground and the trampoline.
Anyone using a trampoline should make sure the mat is in good condition before beginning to jump and that the mat is not wet. By jumping in the center of the trampoline, there is less risk of a fall or being harmed on the springs of the trampoline.
This may seem like a lot of safety precautions that need to be taken into consideration when buying or using a trampoline. With every piece of sporting equipment on the market, there are always safety precautions that need to be practiced and trampolines are no exception.
